Dr Boris Luyten - Veterinarian
Boris graduated from Utrecht University (the Netherlands) in 1996 with a Master in Veterinary Medicine (Companion Animals, Birds and Exotic Animals). After a year of working in multiple small animal clinics he decided to start his own veterinary clinic. Ten years down the track he decided on migrating to Tasmania with his family. He passed the North American Veterinary Licensing Examination and is currently employed here at North West Animal Hospital.
Boris is an all-round veterinarian and enjoys every aspect of small animal practice from the simple to the complicated. When not at work Boris is working on his property, spending time with his family, (pencil) drawing and playing the piano.
Dr Margaret - Veterinarian
Margaret graduated from the University of Sydney in January 1976 and immediately took over a small animal practice in inner Sydney. She later worked in other practices in the greater Sydney region, whilst completing her Ph.D. She also worked in research in gene therapy for some years. In 2006 Margaret and her husband moved to Tasmania and took over North west Animal Hospital and Clinic. Her particular interests in practice are canine reproduction and genetics.
Outside, Margaret has devoted time to her family, her friends, her cats and dogs, to dog breeding, showing and judging, to watercolour art and to poetry, as well as a stinit in local government. More recently she has been breeding thoroughbreds.
JESSICA HARRISON - PRACTICE MANAGER/VETERINARY NURSE
Jess is a fully qualified veterinary nurse with a special interest in reproduction. She grew up on a farm in Tasmania having all pets large and small birds, rodents, poultry, rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, horses, cows, sheep, pigs... you name it!
Jess currently only has two "dogs" (small children in fur coats), three cats and two horses. On weekends Jess shows her French Bulldogs enjoying success on both Tassie and interstate.
Katrina Fox - Veterinary Nurse
Katrina started work at the North West Animal Hospital in 2005 as a part time receptionist. Her love for surgery often found her in theatre and so started her nursing career.
She loves her horses, kayaking with her Australian shepherd Lola and getting to the beautiful east coast of Tasmania as often as she can.
Kirralee - Veterinary Nurse
Kirralee is the youngest member at North West Animal Hospital who is coming into her third year as part of the team. She was born in Tasmania and raised on a large hobby farm surrounded by a large number of pets including dogs, cats, ferrets, guinea pigs, fish and a Shetland pony called Max.
Kirralee’s interest in animal behaviour and learning lead her to completing her Certificate II in Animal Studies while at school, which in turn lead to work in a boarding kennel, dog grooming and now she is studying her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. Kirralee plans to also continue her Certificate IV in Companion Animals through Delta Society to become a qualified Dog Trainer.
Kirralee currently owns two Border Collies named Soxie and Lexi as well as two Whippets named Duke and Duchess. They all enjoy training, bush walking, runs on the beach and going horse riding. Kirralee has also developed a new interest in companion parrots and shares her home with a number of feathered friends.
Jessica G - Veterinary Nurse
Jessica started her veterinary nursing career in 2004 at the age of 17. After completing Certificate II in Animal Studies, she continued on with Certificate III in Veterinary Nursing then Certificate IV in Veterinary Nnursing, graduating in 2008.
Prior to having her daughter in 2014, Jessica was a Scout Leader for her local Scout Troop, the Rubicon Sea Scouts. Part of becoming a Scout Leader is completing training and leadership courses. Not only did she learn how to sail, abseil, and lots of survival skills, she also completed her Certificate III in Leadership Support and Certificate III in Frontline Management. Jessica is constantly trying to further her skills and thinks it is very important to continue learning new things.
In her clan, Jessica has 4 domestic cats, a 12 year old Maltese X and a 2 year old daughter.
Brenda - Groomer
Brenda was born in Queenstown, Tasmania. She and her family moved to the North West Coast in 2004.
Brenda has always had a passion for all animals, her favourite – dogs. She starting exhibiting dogs in 1999 and currently has 10 dogs of her own. Having been a dog exhibitor Brenda has a good knowledge of all breeds and understands the importance of their coat care. She begun professional grooming in 2001.
Katrina Evans - Groomer
Katrina was born in Devonport and has lived there her whole life. She started grooming for a mobile grooming business in 1988 before joining the team at North West Animal Hospital in 2000 as a full time groomer.
Now with two young daughters to care for, Katrina works part time and enjoys spending time with her family on her days off.
